Bounce Story
Matthew Ryan Fischer
“Bounce!”
Kayla waved her hand and Avi flew through the air and slammed
against the wall. Avi let out a long
groan. Something inside him felt like it
had just broken. Not good, he thought. Kayla
was good, she was strong and Avi was probably already in over his head. A broken rib or two would be bad, something
worse, well, that would be worse for sure.
He needed a moment to get away, to clear his head and refocus. Kayla did
not let up.
“Bounce!”
Avi flew through the air and smashed against the other wall.
“Bounce!”
Avi was raised up and his back cracked against the ceiling. For a moment he just stayed in place, looking
down at the tile floor below. Avi
thought he was going to be sick.
Kayla stood below, looking up, smiling that sadistic grin that she
always got when she was winning. She
loved the look of fear in her opponent’s eyes, the taste of victory she got
when she could see they were near defeat, nearly broken. She twirled her finger, slowly raising her
hand in an upwards motion.
Above Avi began to spin around, his body following the motions of
Kayla’s finger. He was being pushed
higher and higher into the ceiling. This
was going to get really bad, he thought.
There was no way his spine was going to survive being drilled into the
ceiling.
Avi pushed with all his might, trying to fight back. He was having trouble staying conscious. He was bruised and bleeding and it felt like
his back was about to break at any moment.
He let out a gasp of air and below a powerful gust knocked Kayla
back. Her concentration was broken long
enough and Avi came crashing to the ground.
Avi quickly stood and tried to get his bearings straight. He saw Kayla standing and threw his hands
forward and a blast of energy knocked her back.
She chuckled at him. “Is
that your best?”
Kayla grabbed out at the air in front of her and made a pulling
motion like she was tugging a rope towards her.
Avi lurched forward.
“How much do you really know?” Kayla taunted.
He fought, but inch by painful inch she was winning.
“Not enough, apparently,” she continued.
She was stronger. She was
always stronger. Avi was only strong
when his twin sister was near. That
annoyed him to no end.
Avi planted his feet in the ground and tried to force his way to a
standstill. The tile and floor just
began to shatter. He reached out and
tried to anchor himself in the walls.
The plaster just tore.
Inch by inch he was dragged closer.
Avi looked at the ceiling.
He struggled with all his might.
But nothing happened.
Then the ceiling collapsed on her.
Avi let out a sigh. For a
moment he thought he won.
Then Kayla pushed the pile off her and pulled Avi towards
her. She made a motion in the air and
all the rubble circled and then came crashing down on Avi. He was knocked out.
Kayla swept the rubble aside by making a sweeping motion in the
air. She moved her hands like a hook and
lifted his body up. She walked away
keeping her fingers hooked and began to drag Avi away with her.
Suddenly Kayla was sent flying through the air. She crashed through the wall and into the
next room.
Savi was in the doorway, strong and powerful, standing in a golfer
stance as if she had just completed swinging a golf club.
Savi looked at the hole in the wall proudly and said to herself
“bounce, bitch!”
