Day 350 - 2766auc Story

2766auc Story
Matthew Ryan Fischer

No matter what happened to the world, no matter what empires came or went, no matter what new rulers rose or former emperors fell, no matter what, they would be the eternal ones. That was what they believed. That was what they knew. History had proven it to be true so far, so why wouldn’t it continue to be so?
Theirs was a world that was without end. The world was theirs. Civilization was theirs. They had made it. They had guided it. They had crafted the foundations of everything – art, math, science, law, government. They had given it to the world. Education, medicine, literature and architecture – the world studied what was theirs, what they had created. The world spoke their language, used their currency, walked on their roads, and drank their water. The world followed their lead, their example. Whatever others achieved, it was on their shoulders and blanketed by their shadows. The world owed them everything. How could the world ever pay them back?
They had spread and explored and conquered. It was their destiny. They crossed the entire known world and brought peace with them. They learned that order and trade were more powerful than the blood on a sword. They had made culture and order and given it to the masses. They made the world better. One day at a time. One step at a time. They looked for answers. They studied and learned and taught. They strove for greatness and never stopped trying. What better purpose could be served than that?
They had reached their gods. They had looked out at the stars and the planets and decided that they could go there. They had reached their gods and proven they were nothing but barren orbs. They were not gods at all. They had reached their gods and conquered them, learned to control them, and learned to make new homes on them. They had reached their gods and become their masters. What other achievement was left?
They were the eternal people. They had been the eternal city, the eternal nation and they had become the eternal world. They knew the future would be theirs as well. The past was, so why shouldn’t the future be? It would be the eternal universe and the eternal future. Pax Aeterna.
